Hola Michelle, I started with translating some of my early short stories into English, and even a complete novel of 20 chapters. It isn't easy, for there are always some proverbs that will never sound the same or have the same meaning in English and vice versa. Thus I've written some in English from the start, and these I've no intention to translate into Hebrew of course. So you see you're right, I share the same problems you do.
